E-File For Faster Refunds

"When will you get your refund?"


Even through we can e-file both the federal and state returns, the state does not post any hard guidelines as to when you should expect your refund.

The IRS does post a deposit calendar based on an acceptance date as to receiving direct deposits. They have a disclaimer on the "Refund Cycle Chart" stating that "The IRS does not guarantee a specific data that a refund will be deposited into a taxpayer's financial institution or mailed."

Based on the "Refund Cycle Chart" that the IRS posts, taxpayers can get their refund as quickly as 9 days depending on when their return was accepted in the system.

The IRS releases refunds on Fridays. If you get your refund accepted on a Wednesday, you will get your Direct Deposit refund the next Friday (9 days). If you requested a paper check, the check will be mailed one week after that (16 days). The longest it will normally take for a Direct Deposit refund is 15 days (This would be a return accepted on a Thursday).

We cannot guarantee the date a refund will be issued, and neither can the IRS. If the expected date of your refund has passed, and you do not have your refund, you can call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1954 or 1-800-829-1040. You can also check at www.IRS.gov

There are multiple reasons that your refund could be delayed. Anytime your return does not match the records that the IRS or Social Security has in their database, you can count on a problem. Other reporting issues and common reasons are questionable Earned Income Credit requests, dependants used on another return, first-time filers, and W2s or SS# that do not match.

We understand that e-filing your return and then having your refund delayed is frustrating, but sometimes it is beyond our control. It is our job to correctly complete your taxes and transmit that information to the IRS. When we send your return to the IRS, the next day they either accept it or reject it and provide us with a reason why. At that time, we can repair the error and resend your return out.

Sometimes, when the err is related to incorrect personal information, we must contact the taxpayer and review the return to reassess the correct information.  Common errors include: social security numbers do not match the names or the names do not match the numbers, one of the dependants filed incorrectly or another person claimed the dependant, first year married, and the spouses name doesn't match social security records. This is the biggest reason for asking the taxpayers to review their final return for errors before we submit it to the IRS. Correcting a return before it is submitted, is much easier (and faster) than correcting it after it is in the system.  

When the tax return has been accepted, that acceptance date will determine when the refund should be deposited into the taxpayer's account. The official IRS calendar on e-file Refund Cycle Mailed checks will take longer.

After the return has been accepted, if you do not receive your refund within 21 days, after acceptance, you should contact the IRS at 1-800-829-4477 or go to www.irs.gov/efile and click on "Where's My Refund"
